A fantastic antique puzzle-box match safe featuring a carved Edelweiss floral design on the lid. The match box dates to the 1890's and was made in Switzerland. This box has a trick to opening - it has a two piece sliding lid with rotating portion.

When the top panel of the lid is rotated out of the way, it reveals a striker for the matches. When the box is full opened, there is storage for the matches themselves.

The box measures 2 3/4" by 1 1/4" in size and 3/4" in thickness. The vesta box is truly in exceptional condition for its age. No chips or cracks to the wood or carving, no scuffs or damage at all. The interior of the box is still clean, as is the mica striker panel.
