A monster !
The Binary Burr was originally designed by Bill Cutler with much less steps than this. The sequence is not as straightforward as Hanoi's Tower's. It looks rather like the Chinese Ring's sequence, each piece locking the piece after the next or not, depending on the state of the next piece.
Maurice Vigouroux made first a 15-piece version with 43,719 moves, but when he heard that it was possible to open it in less that 3 hours with an average of 4 to 5 moves per second, he added two more pieces to raise the difficulty.
This is a big puzzle: 220x70x70 mm. The cage was glued around the pieces. The first 172 moves (8 pieces) were checked by hand in order to ensure that it works fine.
