Cairo Cork Coaster Puzzle – Sjaak Griffioen (IPP 28 Exchange, 2008)

Up for auction is the clever and collectible Cairo Cork Coaster Puzzle, designed by the renowned Dutch puzzle inventor Sjaak Griffioen. This piece was created as an exchange puzzle for the International Puzzle Party (IPP) 28, held in Prague, Czech Republic, in 2008.

​This puzzle utilizes the fascinating geometry of the Cairo Pentagonal Tiling. It consists of 12 unique cork pieces (6 mirror-image pairs).

​The Challenge:

The objective is to assemble the pieces into a continuous tiling to form a functional coaster.

• ​The Twist: You are not allowed to flip the pieces! All pieces must be placed with the laser-engraved URL (www.griffioen.nl) facing upward.
• ​The Material: High-quality, heat-resistant cork, making it one of the few "functional" puzzles from the IPP 28 exchange.

​Condition: Excellent/Like New. The cork is clean with no crumbling or stains. The original clear circular packaging and green instruction insert are included.

​Collector’s Note:

Sjaak Griffioen’s puzzles are celebrated for their mathematical elegance. As an official IPP exchange item, this was produced in limited quantities and was never available through traditional retail channels.
