Description

Connecting Cubes

Designer: Lucie Pauwels

Kevin Sadler wrote about it:

“There are 3 wonderful challenges by Lucie in this release by Pelikan and this one is delightfully colourful and a fun challenge for beginners and experts alike. It is very reminiscent of some of the wonderful challenges made by Vinco that I reviewed many years ago. This consists of 8 cubes each of which has a unique arrangement of a slot cut out of one face and a connecting board on another face. The aim here is to make a 2x2x2 cube. There are also a few other possible simpler assemblies which you will find along the way. I think this is a perfect coffee table puzzle. It looks gorgeous and is something that no one could resist picking up and playing with. The best way to approach this is to actually think© about the different types of pieces and how they interact and allow the chain of cubelets to build up. I started off with random attempts at assembly and quickly realised that wasn’t going to work for me. After that, I attempted an exhaustive search for the correct combination which also failed due to my inability to remember my previously attempted assemblies. Having discovered that that there is much more to this than meets the eye, I categorised the cubelets and established how the different subtypes interacted. After that, it took me another 5 minutes to assemble my cube.”

Nested Soma - Pelikan
Designer: Lucie Pauwels & Dr. Volker LatussekLucie Pauwels wrote about it:“This puzzle was developed from a smaller puzzle, in a 2x2x3 box, the Minimal Nest, which I made for the Minimal puzzle Series by Frederic Boucher. This puzzle has a box and pieces whith shifted layers. I wondered if I could make a larger version, so I worked on a 3x3x3 shifted box. When Volker Latussek saw this puzzle, he suggested to use the Soma pieces. He send me a couple designs for the puzzle pieces, one of those s...

Play-Boy 2 - Pelikan
Designer: Alexander MagyaricsKevin Sadler wrote about it:“Yet again, we have another puzzle based on a non-rectilinear grid – only Pelikan seem to have the courage to do these sorts of puzzles. Taking the pieces out of the box as it had been packed for transport, I could see just how accurately these had been made – the pieces had sharp corners and I had to be careful not to stab myself. I am sure that you can see it straight away but for me it took a few days for me to realise that this o...
