Description

This may be the most creative and complex creation from one of the world’s foremost puzzle designers and craftsmen, Robert Yarger (“Stickman”).  Only 60 of this massive puzzle were made – this is #40.  Rather than try to generate the words to describe this singular creation, I’ll instead rely on excerpts from the review by Boxes and Booze that captures the puzzle so well:

“The Dwemer Construct, aka The Stickman No. 34 Puzzlebox, is an impressive artifact indeed. It appears to be partly a box, at least on the bottom, which serves as a pedestal supporting an explosion of mechanical marvels. There are a myriad of levers, gears, knobs, cranks, pistons, cogs and unusual objects packed into the space on top of the box and held in place by a framework. It’s incredibly mysterious and confusing. It’s also all beautifully rendered in polished walnut and sapele woods, with little maple details scattered all about. There are unique corner step columns which provide a novel detail.  […]  Things move, here and there, and sometimes other things move in response. Certain parts seem to produce movements in entirely different sections, but not always. Sometimes the same move does not produce the same result … this is classic Stickman and can be found on a few other boxes he has created over the years.”

“The entire structure comes apart […]. After this, a pouch hidden inside is discovered, which contains even more parts, and the means with which to deconstruct the works. Once fully disassembled, the next challenge is to figure out how to reconstruct the parts into a second, completely different configuration. This is easily the most unusual aspect to any puzzle Rob has ever created, and takes the solver on the same journey that Rob takes when designing many of his puzzles.”

“There are so many aspects to enjoying this marvelous work, with levels of complexity from the basic to the extreme, and the ability to choose your own experience. It’s an incredible achievement and one of the most unusual Stickman boxes ever.”

Planet with a Ring I (2016) - Hideaki Kawashima (Karakuri)
Released in 2016, Planet with a Ring I represents a highly stylized, puzzlized version of Saturn.  Unlike its sibling Planet with a Ring II, this one (1) has never been remade and thus very hard to find and (2) comes with a stand that gives the "planet" the same axis tilt as Saturn.Karakuri product description:This work was designed for an exhibition that theme is “Space”.This work's motif is the planet Saturn. When a work is put on a stand, it's the same axial tilt as Saturn.A planetary rin...

Ring Case (2019) - Junichi Yananose (Juno)
This sequential discovery puzzle box by famed puzzle craftsman Junichi Yananose (Juno) is utterly brilliant and one of his best.  As you would expect with a sequential discovery puzzle you have to move through a series of steps, but here each step is hard to find because each is so darned clever.  It’s just wonderful.  Even after you get to the hidden compartment you’ll discover a ring that gives the puzzle its name – and that seemingly won’t come out.  Can you open the box?  Can yo...
