Description
Feed the Monkey : North America and Canadian Buyers Only
The Puzzle :
Your greedy little monkey has already eaten a whole bunch of bananas saving the biggest and best for last. Unfortunatly, with eyes bigger than it's belly, the last extra large banana has only been partly eaten. Can you feed your monkey so that every last bit of nutritious banana is swallowed?
The Introductory Price :
The price for the puzzle is GBP 75 with shipping to North America and Canada costing GBP 18 (please see below for further details on shipping). Once the first batch is gone more puzzles will be available on our Etsy store for an expected price of GBP100 exc shipping
Technical Specifications :
Each monkey comprises of a linished brass head and bum with a black Aluminium Oxide blasted, acid etched, polyester powder coated aluminium body.
The bananas have been custom machined in brass and while Brexit transitional rules apply remain in adherence with the European banana standards. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commission_Regulation_(EC)_No._2257/94?fbclid=IwAR16vauIH37crx6sG5vy1ErBB28_ikElLgVwcslwrZHIGgH7BNVNXVMnWeo)
A fully fed monkey weighs around 1.24 lbs / 563 g is 90mm tall, 32mm deep and wide. The main (and only) orifice comfortably accommodates a 6mm diameter banana.
The Background :
This idea started with a fully working prototype in in August ‘19. The first all metal prototype was then produced and this went to DCD where Louis Coolen, Richard Williams and Mike Dowell all tested it and gave us valuable feedback. Some changes were made to the mechanics of the puzzle, the design and theming was agreed (you want to see what we rejected!) and then production started. Logistically this has been our most complex and time consuming puzzle to produce so far.
We co-ordinated the multiple processes needed to manufacture each part, working closely with three other different local Hertfordshire companies. These processes included machining of metal parts. Aluminium oxide blasting the aluminium body, before acid etching and black Polyester Powder Coating. Finishing the monkey's heads was a multistage process too. The machined heads were first linished before having Monkey faces engraved. When these were complete, all remaining visible edges were linished. Once we had all the components and several hundred zip up rubber bananas(!) and information cards we started assembling them into puzzles. August to April to bring one idea to fruition....we hope you like it.
Important purchasing details
This listing is intended for North America and Canadian buyers only - if you are elsewhere in the world please see our other listing(s).
If you would prefer a male or female monkey, the only difference is the eyelashes on the end engraving, please send me a message as you make your purchase. We will, as far as possible, try and meet your preference, the earlier you buy the more likely you'll get the sex you need. This auction is for the balance of the first batch being sent to the US for distribution and, based on the stats so far, you might wish for a girl but get a boy at this stage.
With the current global pandamic we are taking an alternate approach to shipping to maximise the chances of successful deliveries. Purchases of this listing will be fulfilled "locally" by Cubicdissection (A massive thanks to Eric!)
A purchase now guarantees a puzzle for you but we will hope you understand we can not guarantee a delivery date. The first batch of puzzles are complete and started their journey across the Atlantic earlier today.
Many thanks
Steve and Ali
