Description
MRI is a really unusual puzzle from Pelikan. The reason is because Pelikan tends to produce puzzles with simpler shapes such as burrs, packers, and kumikis. But MRI is a strong departure from the norm with it's more complex shape.
People have been talking about it as "the Pelikan Karakuri" which is fitting since Karakuri tends to produce puzzles that look like artwork. The MRI machine with a tiny protruding patient is very nice to observe and admire. Not a typical subject in art, but it holds up well compared to other artworks!
The puzzling aspect is also very well thought out with a magnetic ball bearing visible as a tool for exploring the puzzle. Which is very fitting with how MRIs are basically a very large magnet used for medical diagnosing. However, don't try examining actual MRIs with a magnet or else people can and will get hurt as the machine brutally rips any and all metal from your bare hands!
Now that I've hyped up the puzzle, on to the question of why I would be auctioning off this puzzle almost immediately after getting it. Is there something wrong with it?
Not really, the main issue is that I prefer to buy tricky puzzles over buying puzzles that look nice. So while I can admit that MRI is a fantastic display piece, I just have no desire to keep a puzzle that I've solved within 5-10 minutes of playing with it. I had expected a more complex and longer solve when I originally ordered the puzzle.
Will everyone find it as easy to solve as me? I'm not sure. I think a lot of people will breeze through the solve, but many will likely struggle instead. In my opinion, it depends on how you approach new puzzles.
If anyone is unsure and wants to know what the solve is like before buying it, here is a youtube link to a solution video by Puzzle Guy to show how to solve MRI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVnE3X83TSs
The link is for anyone with friends who can watch and then suggest if MRI is worth buying or not.
Also I have to point out that due to the sheer demand for MRI (and Matchbox Playground), Pelikan is actually going to make more copies and have opened pre-orders for both. So if anyone wishes to bid on this copy, just understand that you will be paying more to get a puzzle sooner compared to paying retail price to Pelikan. So I strongly advise buying from Pelikan instead and to be patient for when they start shipping MRIs out.
