Description

Designed and made by Wayne Daniels with input from David Allwright on the mathematics. The puzzle was exchanged at IPP29 by Abel Garcia.
There’s six pieces with equal quadrilateral faces to make “not-a-cube”.

Goal: Assemble the six pieces into the “not-a-cube” shape.
Size:  The footprint of each piece is 47x44x42x10mm
Materials: Padauk with steel dowel pins.
Condition: Good. The puzzle is in its original box with labelling. Box is a little browned from age. See photo. One piece of the puzzle has a clear sticker on it with the name of the puzzle. Brian has taken the puzzle apart and reassembled it to ensure it’s working as expected.

Note: Abel Garcia also gave a puzzle with a similar name (Not-a-Cube II) the following year at IPP30. The puzzles are different.

Rialto Bridge IPP43 Exchange puzzle
This puzzle fits into a couple of different categories of puzzle. Brian calls it a sequential move puzzle. Goal:   What you have around the Rialto Bridge is gondolas and gondoliers, right? So you have to find the gondola and gondolier inside the puzzle. As well as his oar (pole) and the ballast (we jokingly said that was the...
