Offered here is "One In A Trillion," a versatile and highly challenging mechanical puzzle designed and presented by Steve Nicholls for the IPP 31 Exchange in Berlin (2011). This is a "dual-threat" puzzle that offers two distinct challenges in one beautiful wooden set.
The Challenges:
The Tray Puzzle: Fit all 9 pieces into the wooden tray. While there are technically 7 known solutions for the tray, finding even one is famously difficult.
The Cube Challenge: Use 8 of the 9 pieces to construct a solid 4x4x4 cube. This 3D objective is notoriously tough and has only one unique solution.
