Description

A cubic, Greek labyrinth-themed puzzle box, designed by Christophe Laronde [aka NeoKid] of NKD Puzzle. Here's NKD's listing of this puzzle

Here's a review from Boxes and Booze.

~

Bare minimum, it takes 18 moves to open, but figuring out the combination causes one to need some more moves! Difficulty is estimated as 5/5 by the designers, but I personally rate it as a 3/5. A nice little trick, but nothing that will stump an expert.

Made out of 349 laser-cut and laser-etched poplar plywood pieces, glued together.

Dimensions:  15cm x 15cm x 15cm  // 6in x 6in x 6in

Internal space: 10cm x 10cm x 10cm // 3.9in x 3.9in x 3.9in  [While internal space is cubic, opening aperture is circular, with roughly 9cm/3.5in diameter]

Some care should be taken to ensure anything hidden inside will not rattle around within too much, very slight chance of something wedging into a moving internal part.

This puzzle box kit was assembled in mid-2020. It took around 3 weeks of work. I believe that the work of the assembly is worth what I'm asking, which also allows you to enjoy the puzzle element. Assembling it causes the assembler to learn the puzzle portion of the piece.

There are small imperfections, but nothing glaring. The movements are satisfying, with nice snappy 'clicks' as the slider reaches each stoppage location. Some of the outermost edges, being long slender panels of plywood, have developed slight curvatures.

My copy of the puzzle contains one of the special treasure pieces/items that would normally only feature within the copies that NKD made and assembled themselves.

I could not help but to 'solve' [or rather, open], this one somewhere between 10 - 20 times. Still functions beautifully.
