Description

Spring Camera is considered by many to be Kawashima's masterpiece, and one of the top Karakuris of all time.  It is meticulously modeled after an antique camera, and as with the best Karakuris, the solution mirrors the object's function.  But only so far.  You must remember that you haven't finished solving a Kawashima puzzle until you see his signature "hanko" stamp.  This puzzle is magnificent in its craftsmanship in addition to providing a fantastic puzzle experience - which is why it is so rarely available at auction.

Karakuri product description:

This work was designed for an exhibition that theme is “Travel”.
For me, it’s necessary to take along a camera when traveling.
I switched from a film camera to a digital camera, and smart phone. But even now, I still like to pack a film camera in my bag if there is enough room.
This work is modeled after the spring camera of the 1950s.
Unlike my ordinary work, this does not include any difficult puzzle.
Although it is designed so that a camera strap may be attached, I do not recommend picking it up by the strap or letting it hang from your neck, as the work may not be strong enough to support the total weight.
This work is oil-finished. Please be careful as scratches adhere easily.

Size: 141×89×53mm
Material: wendge, maple, cherry, keyaki (zelkova), etc.
Condition: Perfect

Planet with a Ring I (2016) - Hideaki Kawashima (Karakuri)
Released in 2016, Planet with a Ring I represents a highly stylized, puzzlized version of Saturn.  Unlike its sibling Planet with a Ring II, this one (1) has never been remade and thus very hard to find and (2) comes with a stand that gives the "planet" the same axis tilt as Saturn.Karakuri product description:This work was designed for an exhibition that theme is “Space”.This work's motif is the planet Saturn. When a work is put on a stand, it's the same axial tilt as Saturn.A planetary rin...

Link Type Box (Silver with Dummy) (2017) - Hiroshi Iwahara (Karakuri)
Hiroshi Iwahara produced a series of 6 cube-shaped "Link Type Box" puzzles, each featuring intricate movements that interconnect across multiple faces of the cube.  This one is called Silver with a Dummy.  As is expected from this long-time Karakuri member, this puzzle box is elegant in form, precise in construction, and complex in its motions.Karakuri product description: Confetto Box (RF-39) was developed systematically. A different maze was made on the same structure. The top links with th...

Flemin' - Shiro Tajima (Karakuri)
Shiro Tajima is an early Karakuri craftsman who created only a limited number of highly creative puzzle boxes.  Flemin' appears as an innocuous cube but opening it is surprisingly challenging.  You'll find the first move pretty easily, but you'll go round and round trying to find the key next step.  And once you do open it you'll  also enjoy seeing the delightfully simple mechanic behind it all.  The puzzle is a bit tight but still quite solvable.(Note that Tajima apparently did not depart ...

Moon (2020) - Hideaki Kawashima (Karakuri)
Beautiful Karakuri with clever solution by Kawashima.  Hmm, why is one face a different color than the others...?Karakuri product description:This work was designed as a Christmas present for 2020.The theme is the phases of the moon. It's relatively easy for me to create a complicated Karakuri box by increasing the number of moves, but it's not so easy to create a convincing box with fewer moves.Compared to my Christmas presents of the past, the theme and the trick are clearer, although it may b...
