Description

I’ve often read about this puzzle design through Stewart’s ‘Ap-Art’ and finally decided to make a copy.

Here’s Stewart’s description:

“The next reference known to the author for the 3 x 3 x 3 cube is a version that appeared in Mathematical Snapshots, by Hugo Steinhaus published by Oxford University Press in 1950. Puzzle historians might well be puzzled by this half-century gap. With all of the interest in burrs, etc. during that time, could there have been no interest in cubic blocks? The version in the Steinhaus book (Fig. 49) has two solutions that are slight variations of each other and of medium difficulty. It is referred to as Mikusinski's Cube after its originator, the Polish mathematician J. G. Mikusinski.”

Pieces are a random mix of Canarywood, Jatoba, Maple and Mahogany.

Box is Canarywood with a Maple Sleeve and Wenge Slipfeathers.

Dog Catcher by Alfons Eyckmans
Alfons originally released this insanely difficult burr puzzle in 2017, and this was the first burr that I had to sneak a peak at the burrtools file to disassemble it!  It’s essentially a 12 piece burr, however there’s a frame that restricts movement and three ‘Dog’ pieces packed inside that further hinder your progress.Alfons drilled holes in the bottom of the frame and included a wire rod that you need to use for pushing/prodding the ‘Dogs’.It’s a very clever puzzle and I tip m...
