⟬ Fisher Fortnight II ⟭——[ puzzles made by Tony Fisher ]——11. Rubik's Cube prototype replica (2014)
an accurate replica of Ernő Rubik's prototype.
one of about 11 made. some sold at Dutch Cube Day 2014, the rest were sold through the Twistypuzzles forum, with the slogan 'Low Quality Guaranteed!' (TF: 'I deliberately made this low quality to match the original. It does however move ok. I don't know of any faults.')
he sold at least one more of these in 2024, but construction, or possibly the type of wood used, seems to be slightly different.
from Tony's original description:
I am probably not the first person to make this puzzle since I believe someone made something similar in 1974. I don't know what become of that project so I figured I'd make one myself.
I am pretty happy with it though the finish came out a bit brown and shiny for my liking. I used a good quality genuine Rubik's Cube as a core so movement is unnaturally good and I guess it's technically more of a transformation than a true replica.
in that thread he also posted a video which goes into a bit of the history as well as the making of the replica. whether you're bidding on this or not, i recommend giving it a watch.
♫:
—1. everything i have is in the photos.
—2. shipment is by USPS Priority Mail, insured for the full sale price and trackable.
—3. shipping will be calculated after all auctions in this Fortnight are closed (because it makes invoicing so much easier).
—4. payment is via PayPal only.
—5. all puzzles in my collection have been kept out of sunlight, in a humidity-stable room or sealed plastic container, away from pets unless they can solve them, and in a non-smoking household.
—6. shipping prices have gotten ridiculous so i'm capping them at $30: if shipping costs more, i will pay the balance.
thank you for looking, and good luck if you bid.
