Description

The puzzle was designed by Bill Darrah and made by Interlocking Puzzles for IPP21 held in Tokyo in August 2001.  A cube dissection of eight fan shaped pieces.

Goal: Rebuild the Cube. Redistribute colours so no edges of the same colour touch. The goal also states to return the surprise inside to the centre of the cube however we did not find anything inside this puzzle.
Size: 78x78x78mm
Materials: Three different coloured woods (species not known – one is walnut, another probably birch, maybe cherry.  I do not know American woods that well.)
Condition: The puzzle is in its original box with the original label from IPP but the “surprise” inside it is missing.  It was originally a blue foam rubber star.  It does help in the disassembly process so I have put a few packing peanuts inside as a replacement.  I took the puzzle apart and it slides perfectly. Another great example of the partnership of Bill Darrah’s designs and Interlocking puzzles woodworking skills.

L Burr Juno design made by Josef Pelikan
This is an original puzzle made at Pelikan workshop when Josef was there making puzzles.  It has no packaging or solution sheet. One of Juno’s early burr designs and he still considers it one of his best.  Completely designed in his head back in 1991, it took about one full week to design this L burr. He was concentrating so much on the puzzle in that week he says he even dreamed about it. Goal: Take the six pieces apart and reassemble.  It’s only 4 moves to remove the first piece, but ...

Piston burr puzzle Peter Marineau design
This puzzle was designed by Peter Marineau in 1986.  And given the history of Ray’s collection, and the highly polished finish on the puzzle, we can only assume that it is an original made by Jerry McFarland and either bought at IPP from Bill Cutler or Jerry himself. But there is no distinguishing mark inside the puzzle, nor is there any paperwork with the puzzle to support that. This is the information about the puzzle from Bill’s website:I had just started looking at 6-piece burr designs a...
