Description
You are bidding on the [very rare] Chess Cubes - add it to your collection. This is an exchange puzzle by Peter Hajek at the 19th International Puzzle Party (IPP) in London 1999. Not many of these puzzles were sold, and the remains of the first and only batch were put into storage by Peter, which he later packaged for the party. Originally designed by a group of students at the faculty of Engineering in Presov, Solvakia and produced commercially by Professor Hoffmanin 1991.
The Chess Cubes have a number of tasks and I have had a lot of fun with these interlocking pieces. Loads of hours of enjoyment.
1. Make a 3x3x3 one colour cube which does not interlock (the cubes are provided with this task solved, find a different solution).
2. Make two different 3x3x3 one-colour cubes which do not fall apart when lifted by any of the six surface layers. Peggs in holes count as sufficient to hold the cubes together.
3. Make a 4x4x cuboid, leaving out two queens.
Numerous other tasks are possible by combining all the pieces and many remain unexplored.
The puzzle will be shipped from England, United Kingdom.
