Beaulid Box - Eric Fuller & Joel Freedman

This auction is for Beaulid Box, a 2009 collaboration between Eric Fuller & Joel Freedman, and is one of 40 copies made.  Physical condition and functionality are both excellent.

I believe that Eric's comment [below] regarding the uniqueness of the mechanism is still true. If anyone knows of a similar mechanism or principle in another puzzle, please let me know.

My latest box is the only box design I have collaborated on since the Stickman #4 with Robert Yarger, nearly five years ago. Generally I like to design my own boxes, but when Joel sent this design in for the Coffin Puzzlecraft Competition, I knew it was too good an idea to pass up. We worked together to make the solution a bit more difficult, and the result is something special. To my knowledge no other puzzle box uses the mechanism nor solving methodology that the Beaulid does. This box shares some attributes with the IRMO box. Once solved, the entire mechanism is visible. While most puzzlers like that feature, it makes it difficult to post pictures. Individually crafted from fine Peruvian Walnut, the construction features finger joints for strength and good looks. Each box is individually signed and dated.*

Materials: Peruvian Walnut, Carolina White Ash, Quilted Maple, Steel, Acrylic.

* This copy does not appear to have a signature, date, or number. I've examined it outside and inside, and can't find anything. I bought this directly from Eric, on 22 May 2009, and it's been stored safely since then, so there's absolutely no chance that the signature was somehow 'erased', however that might happen.  Unless he was being super-sneaky, Eric just missed signing this one.
