In the same way the four dials represent not just 4 different races but in how they must learn to work together to finally open the door, a portal into new beginnings.
In a very 'Huckleberry-esque' puzzle kind of way all the dials must positioned so that the door will open. Each dial has its own special sound and effect, listen quietly and as you master this, you will gain entry.
There is a not so hidden code on the front face that will help with one of the dials. There is a riddle included incase you need a hint.
There was 10 of these made with no further runs intended, on with new ideas! Most were made from Walnut, or Mahogany and a few others were a little different, however, the 'Pau Amarello" version seen in pictures above is a one of a kind.
Perhaps one of the fun things about this design is that at any time you can pop off the backside to expose all of the inner workings. This design was actually inspired by a real situation where the public school here on the island asked if I would bring in some puzzles to share with the kids. I couldn't help but say 'yes of course'. As the wheels in my mind turned in the months leading up to 'the day' I envisioned a mechanical exposition such as this for them to explore. While the rest of the class was busy with bottles of glue and building a cube puzzle, one little girl about 6 years old picked it up, sat on the floor and was wide eyed curious for about 10 minutes as she figured out how to make it all work to get the door to open. A very meaningful moment as she found herself feeling pretty smart about it all.
I do love what I do.
