⟬ Fisher Fortnight ⟭——[ puzzles made by Tony Fisher ]——08. Overball Cube (2018)
this was a collaboration between Tony Fisher, who designed the puzzle, and Evgeniy Grigoriev, who designed the internal block that makes it function like a 3x3 FusedCube inside a 4x4, and also printed the puzzle (in SLS nylon). 'Overball Cube' is Evgeniy's name for Tony's 'Ball in a Cube' puzzle, made for 2008 Dutch Cube Day.
this is not the same puzzle as the massproduced version, which is simply a reshaped 5x5.
The Ball In A Cube is similar to the OverlappingCube. There are an additional 12 hidden pieces that need to be positioned and correctly orientated. These pieces correspond to the middle edges on a 5x5x5 though not as straightforward to deal with. They are only properly visible between completed moves. All moves are accessed from the exterior cube so you never have to reach in and touch the ball.
As with the Overlapping Cube it has a central block which hinders certain movement. This central block behaves like a 2x2x2 block in the theoretical 3x3x3 inside of the 5x5x5 the mechanism of an Eastsheen 4x4x4 is made of.
this specific puzzle contains the internal block, which i got from Evgeniy. movement is very smooth.
