Description

Look! Up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's Superm-.... No wait, it's Bad Moon!

Bad Moon is an incredible sequential discovery puzzle with multiple novel twists on the standard puzzle box concept.

First off, it eschews the traditional rectangular boxy shape for a half-moon/semi-circle shape which has enabled multiple novel mechanisms that I haven't seen in other puzzles before.

Secondly, multiple steps are a genuine tactile joy to replay and work through the solve for over and over again. I have to emphasize this point, the puzzle has several steps that are very satisfying to execute and this is not a common phenomena for me to experience. Many puzzles has me simply solving and then never touch ever again. So I consider Bad Moon to be remarkable for this aspect to pull me back in over and over again.

Finally, it's just so pretty to look at with it's understated elegance to show off the gorgeous grains of the bubinga wood on the top of the puzzle. Too many puzzles are built out of pretty woods, but then doesn't show too much of the grains of the wood unlike Bad Moon.

If Bad Moon is so amazing that I consider it one of Dee's best work, then why am I letting it go? Simple. It's a really big puzzle! It measures 10" by 5" by 2 5/8" which is pretty sizable for a puzzle! It weighs 1 pound and 13 ounces by the way.

So while I had fun solving it, it's taking up too much space for me to be personally happy with keeping it and I rather free up the space for more puzzles instead.

This copy is a scratch and dented edition, but I personally couldn't find any flaw, scratch, nick, or mar in the puzzle. In case it was an issue with the finish of the wood, I applied a layer of wax to make it as nice looking as possible.
