Description

Stewart Coffin made the Button Box (STC #52-B) for an IPP exchange. It is another in his explorations of the Pennyhedron (STC #52) design, consisting of two mirror-image halves that form a hollow object. This is a unique offering: both the IPP exchange version and a rare prototype version of Button Box together!

The IPP version was made from four contrasting woods and comes with a wooden button (also a Coffin original!) on the inside. The prototype version has a sticker with 52-B in Coffin's own hand and is signed internally "52-B STC 1995". This is a very rare set!

The fit on the IPP version is incredibly tight, but perfectly functional; the fit on the prototype is very well-tuned, neither too tight nor too loose.

This set comes from the collection of the late Saul Bobroff, which we are selling on behalf of his widow, Paulette.

Cutler Cube (Bill Cutler's 66-piece burr) - likely original Type B

This is a copy of the Cutler Cube, a phenomenally challenging 66-piece burr and one of the first puzzles Bill Cutler ever designed. Although I am not certain, I believe this to be one of Cutler's early "Type B" originals.
