Description

Odawara Lantern is a classic, hard-to-find 2008 Karakuri creation by famed craftsman Tatsuo Miyamoto.  The puzzle is inspired by the traditional Odawara chochin, a foldable traveling lantern historically used in the Odawara region where Karakuri is located.  This Odawara lantern has multiple compartments that open in a satisfying, beautiful way.  It is fairly large and has fantastic shelf presence.  All original packing material is included.

Karakuri product description:

This is one of the works that were developed for the cause of the concept to "make works associated with Odawara and Hakone". The motif is "the Odawara Lantern" which has been used for a long time in the Odawara area. It isn’t difficult to open. When you play with it, the form of the lantern changes interestingly. You can use it as an accessory case.

Size: 87×77×170mm

Material: Mizuki (Dogwood), Shiuri Cherry, and Walnut

Condition: There are a few extremely minor scratches (see photos)

Penultimate Burr Box Set - Eric Fuller / Ken Irvine / Van Delft & Botermans (Cubic Dissection)
The Penultimate Burr Box Set is a foundational item that belongs in any serious puzzle collection.  It succeeds on multiple important levels. First, it introduced a new system of burr puzzles using 6-unit length pieces - a departure from the traditional 8-unit format that defined decades of classic burr designs. This shift surprisingly allows for a greater diversity of puzzle challenges. Second, the elegant wooden box contains 27 meticulously crafted burr pieces made from exotic hardwoods tha...

Four Piece Cube - Dic Sonneveld / Tom Lensch
Dic Sonneveld's Four Piece Cube is an incredible puzzle - deceptively simple yet brilliantly challenging.  From the outside it looks like a basic 2x2 cube.  Inside there are two copies of each of two pieces, each quite intricate and irregularly shaped.  Taking it apart is not hard but not immediate.  Assembly on the other hand is much more complex since the pieces can fit together in many different ways – I’m still working on reassembling the pieces after taking the above photos. What f...

Lazy Wolf (2020) - Osamu Kasho (Karakuri)
Lazy Wolf is a fantastic example of celebrated puzzle craftsman Osamu Kasho’s singular combination of playful, character-driven Karakuri design coupled with delightful puzzling mechanic.  It presents you with a charming, slightly rotund wolf.  Can you open him up and discover what he just ate?  While the solution is only a few steps, it hinges on a key movement that is deceptively simple yet difficult to find.  This is a wonderful puzzle that is fun to solve and looks great on display. ...
