Description

For those familiar with Kawashima’s Bars Box puzzles, Asymmetric Cube -Arrow- may be the prettiest of the series.  -Arrow- has the intricate multi-step solution and precision wood craftsmanship that you expect from a Bars Box puzzle.  However, -Arrow- is described as the “twin” to Asymmetric Cube -5-, and as with -5-, -Arrow- similarly features some particularly surprising movements.  Further, and most notably, -Arrow- features a distinctive, especially cool arrow pattern in different absolutely gorgeous woods on each of the faces, making it stand out among all the Bars Box puzzles.  All original packaging included.

Urashima (2013) - Tatsuo Miyamoto (Karakuri)
Urashima is a delightful, hard-to-find 2013 Karakuri creation by famed craftsman Tatsuo Miyamoto.  As with the best Karakuris, its theme and solution are beautifully coupled.  The puzzle box is inspired by the ancient Japanese tale of Urashima Tarō, a fisherman who rescues a turtle and is rewarded with what feels like only a few days with the princess Otohime in the underwater Dragon Palace.  When he returns home he discovers that centuries have passed, and upon opening a mysterious box give...

Flaskolation - Yasuaki Kikuchi (Karakuri)
Flaskolation is a creative, beautiful, and unusual Karakuri, epitomizing Kikuchi ‘s puzzle style combining playful themes, puzzle cleverness, high craftsmanship, and conceptual originality.  It has three parts: the box, a syringe, and a stand for the syringe.  This puzzle is particularly distinctive – it came out during the COVID pandemic, and was a direct response to it.  Very few are in circulation.  More about its pandemic inspiration can be found in the Karakuri description. Four Piece Cube - Dic Sonneveld / Tom Lensch
Dic Sonneveld's Four Piece Cube is an incredible puzzle - deceptively simple yet brilliantly challenging.  From the outside it looks like a basic 2x2 cube.  Inside there are two copies of each of two pieces, each quite intricate and irregularly shaped.  Taking it apart is not hard but not immediate.  Assembly on the other hand is much more complex since the pieces can fit together in many different ways – I’m still working on reassembling the pieces after taking the above photos. What f...
