*rare* ORIGINAL SOMA Deluxe by Piet Hein / Parker Bros
Made of solid Rosewood standing on a solid aluminum platform, this is the original SOMA cube created in mid 20th century by Piet Hein and crafted in a special deluxe version by Parker Brothers. Condition is excellent as shown; it is very uncommon to find an example of this puzzle in such fine display condition. SOMA consists of seven uniquely shaped pieces, each comprised of smaller unit cubes, that must be assembled into a perfect 3×3×3 cube.
Invented by Danish polymath Piet Hein during a lecture on quantum mechanics in 1933, the Soma cube is a classic example of a solid dissection puzzle. While it may look like a toy, it’s been used in classrooms and psychological studies to test spatial reasoning and problem-solving skills. Despite its modest appearance, the puzzle has 240 distinct solutions (excluding rotations and reflections), making it a surprisingly rich challenge.
