Description
Ovoloid is a bit of a strange burr design that Juno came up with. First off, it's not made of burr sticks, but burr plates which isn't that rare of an idea, but is a niche category within the greater space of the burr puzzle genre. Secondly, it has an internal structure that the 6 burr plates are interwoven into which is visible from the start by seeing the seventh triple-stick wenge piece holding the rest of the burr together.

It was fun working my way through the burr's maze and like usual with Juno's designs, he puts a focus on designing it so that the burr pieces stay relatively stable for most of the solve up to the last few moves to pull everything apart. Too many burrs get very unstable and annoying trying to hold it all steady to progress in the solve making for a less pleasant puzzling experience. It's also fairly large which is more enjoyable to hold in my hands and mess around with compared to smaller burrs which can feel more cramped at times.

It's been kept in excellent condition with no scratches, dents, or marring. The main pieces are a lovely sandwich of sapwood bubinga, tasmanian myrtle, fijian mahogany, and camphor laurel along with the blocking wenge sticks.

Vertigo by Dee Dixon
Vertigo definitely lives up to its name considering how easy it is to go around and around in circles with this puzzle! It's a good thing that it's so pretty and nice to look at considering how long I spent just staring at it like an idiot lost on the next step to do! I liked it more than most of Dee's other works. It has some very nice steps that I was impressed by and liked to repeat just for the tactile pleasure of executing these steps.Grab this bad boy to enjoy as the first puzzle of 2026!I ...

Hol(e)y by Josiah
Hol(e)y is the third and final puzzle in a trilogy of lego puzzles from Josiah, and it ends things with a major challenge! The goal is to simply open the drawer to find your prize. But if anyone was paying attention, just like with the prior puzzles in the trilogy, you also have to figure out the reset as well which is not a simple reversal of prior steps! It's yet another major step up from Prison Block with 30+ steps and Josiah was gloating about including some diabolical sneaky mechanisms to t...

Slidebox 353 by Stephan Baumegger
Slidebox 353 is a BEAST of a puzzle where you have an incredibly high move count before you can take out the sides of this "box". In fact, the move count is included in the name of this puzzle. It takes 353 moves before this box opens up!The acrylic sliders are a nice touch to support and enhance the wooden panels. I liked the contrast between the 2 materials and they helped me by not obscuring as much of the wood. But I have to be honest here. It's such a long solve that I got tired and just re...

Stuffing Burr by Dr. Volker Latussek
Stuffing Burr is a bit of a quirky puzzle that's having fun playing with the boundaries of what it means to be a burr puzzle. It's not the first time where I played with a burr puzzle with the goal of assembling it instead of taking it apart. But oddly enough, we don't need to deal with the struggling of long sequence of moves to manipulate and move the burr sticks around until they assemble. The level and move counts here are obviously fairly low. But the catch is that the final goal shape isn't...
