Description

The Provenance

This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of puzzle history. This specific unit comes directly from the personal collection of the late Bill Darrah, the legendary puzzle designer and craftsman. Bill was a titan in the mechanical puzzle community, and owning a piece from his private archives adds significant "pedigree" and investment value to this item.

The Puzzle

Exchanged at the 19th International Puzzle Party (IPP19) in London, August 1999, this masterpiece was designed by Bill Darrah himself and exchanged by the renowned Harry Nelson. It was precision-manufactured by Interlocking Puzzles, known for their elite-tier woodworking.

2 Puzzles in 1

This is not a simple assembly. The "Two-Way" in the title signifies a dual-challenge:

  1. Solution A: Assemble the pieces into a 3 times 3 times 3 cube with a "Light Cornered" checkerboard pattern.
  2. Solution B: Re-assemble the same pieces into a "Dark Cornered" checkerboard pattern. The pieces utilize complex "half-cube" geometry, making the solve significantly more challenging than it appears.

Condition & Rarity

  • Limited Edition: These were produced in a very small run exclusively for IPP19 exchange participants.
  • Complete Set: Includes the original box, the original solution sheet, and the designer's business card.
  • Materials: Beautifully crafted from contrasting hardwoods (likely Walnut and Oak/Maple).
