Special Provenance Note: ???? This puzzle, along with several others I am currently offering, comes directly from the personal estate and collection of the late, legendary puzzle designer and enthusiast, Bill Darrah. Up for auction is a beautifully crafted hidden labyrinth puzzle, Puzzling Adventures, designed and manufactured by the highly respected Mike Snyder. Making this specific piece even more special, it features a custom paper dust jacket titled, Bill Darrah's Puzzling Adventures: The twisted escapades of a truly puzzled person. Being able to offer a tribute puzzle that was actually owned by the man it honors is a rare treat for any serious collector!
The Objective: This puzzle is a blind maze masquerading as a hardcover book. The goal is to navigate the internal labyrinth using gravity and dexterity to successfully remove the hidden marble from the maze block.
The Craftsmanship & Materials:
Beyond the clever mechanics, the woodwork and sourcing on this piece are phenomenal and heavily documented on the included information slip:
Covers and Spine: Crafted from Black Ash. The wood was milled in 1980 from logs cut on a 40-acre farm in Wisconsin, barn-dried for 14 years, and aged for an additional 6 years in Minnesota before being perfectly milled for this puzzle.
The "Pages" (Maze Block): Made from Hemlock, repurposed from the construction of the designer's own home.
Condition:
Excellent, collector-quality condition. The wood grain is striking and the puzzle functions exactly as intended. It includes the original paper dust jacket and the original fold-out provenance/instruction slip detailing the history of the wood and the objective.
This is a wonderful opportunity to add a unique, story-rich Mike Snyder dexterity puzzle to your collection, complete with unbeatable provenance. Please review all photos for the exact condition. Shipping will be calculated at the end of the auction. Feel free to reach out with any questions.
