Dove Tail Bar, IPP20 Exchange Puzzle made by Perry McDaniel

One of the famous Sandfield Brothers' dovetail designs, this one by Norman, crafted exquisitely in two beautifully contrasting woods (walnut and maple) by the master Perry McDaniel. Norman used this puzzle in the puzzle exchange at IPP20 (Los Angeles, 2000). The puzzle is in the shape of a "Dove Bar" ice cream bar. The challenge is how to open the puzzle. The puzzle was made in a limited edition of 200. This one is signed and numbered "PM 101/200."

Measures approximately 7" x 3" x 3/4"

Cutaway Dovetail Puzzle by Perry McDaniel

Designed by Robert Sandfield and Crafted by Perry McDaniel At first glance, this one resembles a slightly enlarged Sandfield Joint, except that someone has taken a bandsaw to it and cut out one of the corners – leaving the inside edges significantly rougher than the rest of the puzzle. (Nice touch, that!) The Pharaoh's Secret by Perry McDaniel

Perry McDaniel, a favorite craftsman and fellow Texan, uses something a bit more modern to achieve his precision, but I suspect he could do it with shadows too. He designed (along with Norman Sandfield) and created the Pharaoh’s Secret, a miniature pyramid made from walnut, mahogany and padauk woods.
