Description

The DDD Burr Set or Darryl's Dense Dozen is a very nice and gentle introduction to the vast world of burrs. Burrs come in a wide variety of wild shapes that consist of notched pieces that when put together, creates a three-dimensional shape. But the DDD Burr Set only involves making 6-piece burrs in the iconic burr shape that represents the genre despite how the most complex and advanced burrs are formed into completely different shapes than this burr set makes. Darryl came up with the set of burr sticks and their puzzles, Bryan cut out the burr sticks from aluminum, and Eric made the wooden box with a little trick to open it while also selling the puzzle to the puzzle community.

DDD has 12 burr sticks that can be put together in 530 ways with 6 chosen sticks for each puzzle problem. However the majority are relatively boring, trivial burr problems. 42 problems have unique solutions aka only one way to assemble them from 6 burr sticks, and 12 were selected from this list for a nice sequence of escalating difficulty of interesting burr puzzles.

This copy is an aluminum burr set in a lovely wooden padauk box which I've kept for a long time due to having such a nicely compact set of burr sticks that easily fits into my pocket as a 2.625" x 2.625" x 2" sized box. But I haven't touched it in a long time after solving the entire set of burr problems five years ago, so it's time for me to let it go to someone else who will have their fun with it.
