As his exchange puzzle at the 2018 International Puzzle Party acclaimed puzzle craftsman Allen Rolfs created a magnificent burr set. Whereas others had produced traditional burr sets based on rectangular pieces, Allen set for himself the challenge of crafting a set of 22 leopardwood “star” burr pieces – pieces that require angular rather than straight cuts and assemble to form what mathematicians call the first stellation of the rhombic dodecahedron. The pieces come in a specially made box that lists 53 different challenges - combinations of pieces to assemble into a star burr shape. Note that the pieces have knots and other cosmetic imperfections that do not interfere with the beauty of the set or the listed challenges. Condition: The third piece from the left on the bottom has some wooden imperfections on it visible in the third photo. The lid is also a bit faded. Otherwise perfect.
