Description

⟬ Smallbox Fortnight ⟭——17. Eric Krusenstjerna - Lament Configuration Magic Billet Box (2009)

made from anodised CNC machined aluminum and neodymium magnets.

there's also a smaller box inside (see last photo).

Eric Krusenstjerna (often shortened to Krusen) has been making these CNC-milled magnetic boxes since about 2006 or 2007. he sold them through his own site for a while (no longer up) and through eBay, and fairly recently moved to Etsy (as magicbilletbox). he may still do custom designs if you have one in mind.

this is an interesting box, but not necessarily a puzzle, so the following description isn't a spoiler. in fact, Eric posted the first instructional video to YouTube in 2007, and he's always been very clear about how they function.

the boxes have outer and inner lids, both magnetically held. there are two methods to open them, depending (i believe) on the configuration of the magnets in the inner lid:

type I is opened by simply inverting the outer lid over the inner lid;

type II is solved the same way, but the inner lid requires additional kinetic energy to release it, and this means giving the inverted outer lid a sharp tap while holding the box. it's a neat physics trick.

here's one of his YouTube videos showing a type II box.

⟬ Smallbox Fortnight ⟭——24. Osamu Kasho - Small Box - Block C and Creature P (2022) it's a one-move solve, and the fit on this can be rather loose so there's a slight possibility it may decide to open on its own as you pick it up. but rest assured that Creature-P (handmade by 'Studio Yaniwani') is a strict vegetarian and will not bite you for an accidental solve. so i'm told. original KCG website description here. made from: walnut, magnolia (...

Eric Fuller - Small Box Twoː 'Aha Box' (2019)
⟬ Smallbox Fortnight ⟭——11. Eric Fuller - Small Box Twoː 'Aha Box' (2019) from Eric's description: This design was Allan Boardman's IPP exchange puzzle in 2004. He describes it as "Designed to lure your non-puzzler friends into 'our' world." It gives very few clues upon handling...it seems to be solid, with no way to open it. A solution does exist, and it's quite tricky to discover. Sturdy and pocket sized, a great puzzle to share with friends and non-pu...

⟬ Smallbox Fortnight ⟭——22. Karakuri Small Box collection +2 (2004-2010)Acorn Box and Fake Box aren't technically part of this series, but i'm including them in this listing because they get along so well with the rest of the guys, i don't have the heart to break up a team. they've been through so much together. especially since the tragic loss of Small Box #9 on that North Pacific mission i'm not allowed to discuss. ⟬ Smallbox Fortnight ⟭——31. traditional Japanese box: 4-step 1.5 sun koyosegi (maker & date unknown) general notes on the traditional boxes: this, like the other traditional Japanese boxes in this fortnight, may have come from Mary & Mike at PuzzleBoxWorld, but beyond that possibility i have no information on it. the last photo shows the box open, which i'm assuming is not too much of a spoiler for anyone here. i do this mainly for those who might be i...
