The puzzle was designed by Bill Darrah and made by Interlocking Puzzles for IPP21 held in Tokyo in August 2001. A cube dissection of eight fan shaped pieces.
Goal: Rebuild the Cube. Redistribute colours so no edges of the same colour touch. The goal also states to return the surprise inside to the centre of the cube however we did not find anything inside this puzzle.
Size: 78x78x78mm
Materials: Three different coloured woods (species not known – one is walnut, another probably birch, maybe cherry. I do not know American woods that well.)
Condition: The puzzle is in its original box with the original label from IPP but the “surprise” inside it is missing. It was originally a blue foam rubber star. It does help in the disassembly process so I have put a few packing peanuts inside as a replacement. I took the puzzle apart and it slides perfectly. Another great example of the partnership of Bill Darrah’s designs and Interlocking puzzles woodworking skills.
