Description
This is an original puzzle by Gary Foshee. It is a very cool piece of puzzle history as it's one of the early sequential discovery puzzle designs and it is highly desirable, particularly for collectors.
From the original owner I purchased from, who acquired this puzzle directly from Gary at IPP19 in 1999:
From the original owner I purchased from, who acquired this puzzle directly from Gary at IPP19 in 1999:
Gary Foshee was one of the early innovators of "sequential discovery" and "blind solve" modern puzzles. Excalibur (which may or may not be one or the other!) was Gary's exchange puzzle at IPP19, held in London in 1999. It was both designed and manufactured by Gary. The goal is to remove the King Arthur's sword from the "stone." Note the beautiful "IPP XIX" brass plaque attached to the aluminum "stone."
Excalibur comes as received 24 years ago at IPP19 in its original felt pouch with attached instructions (see second photo), and remains in very nice condition. I will provide a copy of the solution to Excalibur from the IPP19 booklet.
