Description

⟬ Fisher Fortnight II ⟭——[ puzzles made by Tony Fisher ]——02. Golden Cube, black on red cast (2013)

the Golden Cube is the origin of the concept for Adam Cowan's Ghost Cube, and subsequent 'ghosted' puzzles, where slice planes are reoriented in an otherwise symmetrical puzzle to make each piece unique, and the solved state is in midturn which limits the number of initial moves (in this case to one).

i bought this in august 2013, but i believe Tony made it a few months or even years earlier and then set it on a quiet shelf somewhere to allow the VOC's to outgas from the resin. there was some minor bubbling under the stickers for the first couple of years, but since then everything has been perfectly stable.

from Tony's original description:

I made the puzzle using second generation moulds from my 1999 originals. This means it is harder to solve than the mass produced Meffert's version since it has a triangular piece with no obvious orientation which can cause parity problems. Unfortunately my intended lines of rotation were slightly altered on the mass produced version and this piece became lop sided. By using my own moulds I was once again able to make it as intended for this black on red version.

All work was done by hand with no CAD or 3D printing. The stickers were hand cut using my custom made stencil.

If you have never handled one of my cast puzzle you will know that they are fairly heavy. This is because it is almost impossible to make the plastic as thin as you get on a mass produced puzzle. My Golden Cubes have hollow parts but they are still one of the heaviest puzzles I have made.

movement is excellent, and this is one of the few puzzles where Tony's signature hasn't become the unfortunate victim of chemical entropy over the years.

also, for the record, this puzzle has an identical twin sister in Mexico.

(¡saludos, dagma! ¿cómo has estado?)

♫:

—1. everything i have is in the photos.

—2. shipment is by USPS Priority Mail, insured for the full sale price and trackable.

—3. shipping will be calculated after all auctions in this Fortnight are closed (because it makes invoicing so much easier).

—4. payment is via PayPal only.

—5. all puzzles in my collection have been kept out of sunlight, in a humidity-stable room or sealed plastic container, away from pets unless they can solve them, and in a non-smoking household.

—6. shipping prices have gotten ridiculous so i'm capping them at $30: if shipping costs more, i will pay the balance.

thank you for looking, and good luck if you bid.

⟬ Fisher Fortnight II ⟭——[ puzzles made by Tony Fisher ]——08. Open Master Pyraminx (2017) a variation on the theme of 'open puzzles', or 'how does that not immediately fall apart?' from the TP museum entry: As Tony has done on other occasions, he has removed five pieces from this puzzle and modified it further to keep it workable. It works equivalent to a bandaged Master Pyraminx where the removed pieces are bonded. Four out of eight turns are stil...

⟬ Fisher Fortnight II ⟭——[ puzzles made by Tony Fisher ]——06. Locked Blocks (~2014) the original six-colour versions were made for Dutch Cube Day 2013; i believe this particular gold version was made a year or so later. from Tony's original description: This puzzle is similar to my Slide Twist Twist Slide and Twisted Assembly puzzles. Like those it combines characteristics of an assembly puzzle with those of a twisty puzzle. Some people complained tha...

Tony Fisher - Sliding Pucks (USA version) (2013)
⟬ Fisher Fortnight II ⟭——[ puzzles made by Tony Fisher ]——12. Sliding Pucks (USA version) (2013) from the TP museum entry: For this puzzle Tony Fisher stacked three pucks and connected them with a sliding mechanism instead of a fully rotating one. Because of the puzzles movement the numbers or patterns on each end become lost and hidden inside the puzzle so it is unclear what goes where until they are once again brought to the correct end. Three version of thi...
