Each inch tells a story.
Crafted from five vintage yardsticks—each marked by time, trade, and touch—this puzzle box reminds us that what we build is more than material. Every ruler once measured the outer world; now they measure the inner one. The yardstick on top is from the 1953 International Plowing Match held in nearby Coburg, Ontario. A nice slice of history if you happen to be born in '53.
Little bits of paint that found their way on to the yardsticks over the decades has been left untouched. A subtle reminder of when someone's Aunt Judy painted the cottage that year, ...or something like that. It is a witness to life.
Four obvious buttons await further discovery, but only when your approach aligns just right—patience, observation, and intuition in balance.
Made 2 Measure is the fourth in a series of ten yardstick puzzles, each exploring a different facet of measurement—precision, proportion, alignment, and truth. Together, they form a dialogue between craft and consciousness, reminding us that every measure we take in the outer world reflects an inner calibration.
Handmade from reclaimed history, this piece is both artifact and mirror—proof that what once gauged distance can now reveal depth.
