Selling my Red Treasure by Benno de Grote, standard edition, numbered #048, in mint condition. Solved a handful of times, filmed, and carefully returned to its original starting configuration. Complete and ready for its next owner.

This is genuinely one of my favorite sequential-discovery puzzles, and an absolutely phenomenal follow-up to Castle Emberlock.

Benno has done something remarkable here. Red Treasure takes the intricate mechanical discovery experience of Emberlock and packs an astonishing amount of it into a compact, beautifully detailed pirate's treasure chest. It's an excellent demonstration of just how sophisticated and satisfying modern 3D-printed mechanical puzzles can be.

What makes it special?

- An extraordinary variety of mechanical discoveries, clever interactions, hidden surprises, and tool use.

- Excellent sequential-discovery design that continually rewards observation, experimentation, and logical thinking.

- A substantial number of individual movements and discoveries. Depending on how you count them, I'd estimate around 40 individual actions across a complete solution.

- Remarkably clever use of the available space. This thing is absolutely packed with mechanisms.

- A satisfying, coherent journey rather than a collection of unrelated tricks.

- Beautiful presentation, substantial heft, and an excellent pirate-treasure-chest aesthetic.

Benno rates the difficulty around 8–9/10, with original playtesters taking approximately 2–6 hours to solve it.

It also earned Jury 1st Prize at the 2026 IPP Nob Yoshigahara Puzzle Design Competition, which is well deserved.

Even knowing the complete solution, it can take me approximately 20 minutes to work through the entire sequence. There really is that much going on inside this little chest.
