⟬ Fisher Fortnight ⟭——[ puzzles made by Tony Fisher ]——02. Cubillusion (2013)
made from a bandaged and extended Eastsheen 4x4, with a concave section designed to look, from a certain angle, like a convex 3x3.
technically, this is the three-dimensional version of a two-dimensional pattern called 'rhombille tiling', where a lack of visual depth cues creates an illusion of ambiguous orientation, and often a phenomenon known as 'multistable perception' (in this case, 'bistable perception'), where the brain switches back and forth between two or more possible interpretations.
the extensions themselves are bandaged to create an arch and two hooks (see last photo), under which some pieces can pass and others are blocked. all in all, a very cool design.
