Description

From the Private Collection of the late Bill Darah

Up for auction is a truly "once-in-a-blue-moon" find for the mechanical puzzle community: the Official Records of the 32nd International Puzzle Party (IPP32) held in Washington, D.C., in August 2012.

This is not just a book; it is a historical record of one of the most significant gatherings in the puzzle world. IPP events are strictly invitation-only, with attendance usually capped at around 400 of the world’s top collectors and designers. Consequently, these souvenir books were produced in extremely limited quantities and almost never appear on the secondary market.

Distinguished Provenance

This specific copy comes from the esteemed collection of Bill Darah, a beloved and highly respected figure in the puzzle community. Following his passing, a few select items from his curated library are being made available to the public. Owning a piece from the Darah collection is a mark of distinction for any serious collector.

Condition: Pristine

This volume is in pristine, collector-grade condition.

  • Binding: Tight and perfectly intact.
  • Pages: Crisp, clean, and free from any writing, highlights, or dog-ears.
  • Cover: Vibrant colors with no fading or shelf wear.

It has been meticulously preserved and looks as if it were handed to an attendee yesterday.

Historical Significance

IPP32 was a "watershed" event for the organization. As noted in the introduction by Chris Morgan, this was the year Jerry Slocum—the legendary founder of the IPP—officially announced his retirement from actively running the parties. The book contains:

  • In-depth history of the IPP.
  • Moving tributes to Jerry Slocum’s career.
  • Detailed records of the Design Competition and Exchange puzzles.
  • Lectures from luminaries like Frans de Vreugd, Gary Foshee, and the Demaine brothers.

Note on Listing Photos

I have intentionally not included photographs of the internal puzzle solution pages. Out of respect for the designers and the integrity of the IPP community, I believe it is only fair that these solutions remain "for eyes only" of the eventual owner. This ensures the challenge and mystery of these world-class puzzles are preserved for the buyer.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to add a "Holy Grail" item to your puzzle library while honoring the legacy of a great collector.

The "Happy" Hooker Cube (IPP 25 Helsinki)
This is an incredible opportunity for any serious collector. Since I recently acquired the personal collection of the late Bill Darrah, I have been cataloging several duplicates of his most iconic designs.I sold one of these "Happy" Hooker Cubes just recently, and the interest was overwhelming. If you missed out on that first listing, here is your second (and likely final) chance to own a piece of puzzle history with impeccable provenance.Up for auction is a rare and highly sought-after ex...

Rare Bosstonean Cube - IPP26 Boston (2006) - Coordinate Motion Puzzle by Joe Becker & Bill Darrah
Up for auction is the highly sought-after Bosstonean Cube, an official exchange puzzle from the 26th International Puzzle Party (IPP26) held in Boston in 2006.Designed by Bill Darrah and Joe Becker, this puzzle is a brilliant homage to Serhiy Grabarchuk’s "Cubical Borromean Rings." While its striking yellow, red, and black "Borromean" pattern is visually stunning, it serves as a clever distraction for the real challenge: Coordinate Motion.Unlike standard interlocking puzzles, the Boss...

IPP 31 Hidekuni Tamura "Eight Segment Burr" (2011 Berlin) - Rare 4-in-1 Assembly
Up for auction is the Eight Segment Burr, designed and crafted by renowned Japanese puzzle master Hidekuni Tamura for the IPP 31 (International Puzzle Party) exchange in Berlin, 2011. As MIB as possible. It is in a zip lock baggie but has never been taken out or solved. I didn't, Bill Darrah didn't. I am sure I could never get it back in the bag as clean as this is. This is not your average burr. While it appears to be a standard interlocking "knot," it consists of eight unique segments rat...
