Description

It all began in 1978. Dean Hoffman designed his Packing Puzzle, a cube made up of 27 identical pieces. But it was different from the usual; it was imperfect, because its volume was smaller than that of the box it was contained in. Despite its six completely parallel faces, it contained empty spaces. This cube had 21 valid solutions.

The brilliant Haym Hirsh drew inspiration from this cube. He began by designing the Hoffman Jr. puzzle (Inelegant 5x5) and continued the series with Inelegant Soma, Inelegant Box, Inelegant Cube, Inelegant Snakes, Inelegant Fake, Inelegant So-Ma, Inelegant N's. Haym Hirsh combined the 27 original pieces into different groups, thus creating puzzles with only one solution.

All these puzzles, produced in wooden limited editions, are now sold out. I'm re-proposing some of them, made with a 3D printer and at affordable prices, so that everyone can enjoy these fantastic and fun puzzles.

All are printed and sold under license from Haym Hirsh, who is the designer and copyright holder.

I printed these Puzzles as an 80mm cube, and they turned out bigger than I expected. I took a comparison photo with Neptune, which is 62mm wide.

This puzzle is printed with two different Wood filaments and so has a pleasant woody look.

Dimensions of the "cube": 80 x 80 x 80  mm + included pedestal

One Nick is enough, by Oskar Van Deventer
A puzzle that might make you lose your patience, not only because of its difficulty, but also because while you insert a piece, you have to hold the ones already inserted in place and in precarious positions! Your task is, of course, to reassemble the cube with its 7 pieces inside the pyramid.A fairly difficult 3D puzzle; and also a sort of "impossible object" for those who don't know that the cube can be dismantled...Dimensions: one side of the pyramid is 120 mm, the one of the cube is 60 mm.Th...

Poco Loco, by Yavuz Demirhan
Poco Loco is a Packing Puzzle with one oddity: two pieces are already in the container !  But despite this, there aren't many moves to complete it, nor are they particularly difficult. There are only four identical pieces to insert. No rotations are necessary.Poco Loco is a puzzle made of PLA Wood, a wood-like filament.Dimensions: approximately 70 x 60 x 60 mm.“Poco Loco” is produced and sold under license from Yavuz Demirhan (https://www.puzzlehub.org/puzzles/yavuz-demirhan) who is the Des...

Oekanda, by Lucie Pauwels
Oekanda is a packing puzzle where you fill the container (without a bottom or lid) with the eight pieces provided. But that's not all! For the puzzle to be considered solved, the pieces must remain "stuck" in the container; therefore, they must not fall out from either of the two open sides.Oekanda is printed with two different Wood filaments, giving it a pleasant woody look. It's not a particularly difficult puzzle, and is suitable even for beginners.Dimensions: 100 x 100 x 56 mm."Oekanda" is ...

Gear Fit, by Oskar Van Deventer
A puzzle that at first glance seems simple. Just two strange gears to assemble. The goal is to assemble them so that they can rotate freely "infinitely" (i.e., 360 degrees) relative to each other without getting stuck. Each gear must be positioned on a star-shaped pin that allows only 7 different positions. However, consider that each gear can be flipped... and mounted on the right or left. In short, there are already 28 possibilities for each gear. Needless to say, the first photo is not the sol...
