Description
Scion of the Tesseract (2025 Version) with Black Weave & Cherry Red Insides
A 26-Step Sequential Discovery (SD) Puzzle Box Inspired by Juno and Jerry McFarland
Rankings (2024):
- #3 in PHAT
- #15 in MPD
This is a new version of my 26-step SD puzzle, Scion of the Tesseract. It features the same solve path and hardware as the original run—complete with multiple tools and hidden steps—but is now more accessible to new buyers and puzzlers.
“There is way more going on in there than you would assume by looking at it.”
— Ryan Sinatra (paraphrased)

Key Improvements & Cost Reductions
Filament & Infill
- Switched from $40 specialty filaments to a robust $20 PLA.
- Reduced infill by 50%, still providing ample sturdiness while cutting material costs.
Simplified Colors & Variations
- Down to 2 filaments from the original 4, and fewer pattern variations overall.
- Less color changing and filament waste reduces logistical overhead.
- Less options (originally 9) means fewer mistakes and unuseable parts.
Streamlined Printing & Assembly
- Printing multiple parts on the same plate drastically lowers error rates.
- Production time dropped from 12–16 hours per puzzle (old version was printed one part at a time) to about 5 hours total (4 hours printing, 1 hour assembly).
Fewer Extras
- No more custom-printed easter eggs, puzzle stands, or elaborate packaging.
- This cuts both material and labor costs (less cleanup, finishing, and presentation work).
Same Solve, Lower Price
- Mechanically identical to the first run—same steps, tools, and finale.
- Now $150 for a numbered copy, which is less than half the original price.
Why the Original Version Was More Collectible/Valuable
- Premium Filaments & Unique Variations: Carbon-fiber blends and multiple color schemes and patterns increased both cost and rarity.
- Extra Features & Packaging: Easter eggs, custom stands, and ARG-style unboxing contributed to a deluxe collector’s experience.
- Labor-Intensive Process: Custom color swaps, frequent part replacements due to Carbon Fiber, and detailed/laborious cleanup (especially the Amolen regular versions) made each original copy more time-consuming—and thus more exclusive.

Final Note
Thank you for your interest in Scion of the Tesseract. This streamlined version aims to bring the same intricate solve to more puzzlers, while helping fund future SD designs—such as my next project (tentatively titled “Pocket Rocker”). Enjoy the journey!
